"Civil e-monitoring: a way to community empowerment using modern Internet tools" is a project know also by the shorter name of "Fix Kairouan".
It is now being realized in the city Kairouan in Tunisia by Press Club Foundation and financed by polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of "Support for Democracy 2013" programme.
Its primary goal is to create a website based on Fix-my-street formula - an interactive map that allows to mark problems that need fixing in your neighborhood - holes in the road, demolished buildings, garbage, etc. Collected information is then forwarded to local authorities, which take actions to improve the situation. The described tool has already been finished and functions without issues for about a month. What should be mentioned is that this is first such an initiative in the Arabic world. The project is realized with emphasis on cooperation with local ngo"s and authorities.
The Development Policy Foundation cooperates with Press Club from the beginning of creating the application - it provides essential advise and its specialists are taking part in all kinds of project activities.
